D’aquest gènere n’hi ha vàries espècies a les Pitiüses (algunes més a Mallorca). El nom del gènere vé del grec “όρχις” que és “testicle” per la forma de l’arrel.
Orchis italica és una espècie del Mediterrani. A Eivissa es pot trobar en locs sense arbres massa densos. No n’hi ha a Formentera. Floreix de febrer a maig.
La subespècie Orchis coriophora subspec. fragrans també és mediterrània. És difícil dir-ne exactament la distribució perquè alguns autors no la distingeixen d’altres subespècies d’Orchis coriophora (sinònim: Anacamptis coriophora), alguns la consideren una subespècie d’aquesta, altres la consideren una espècie apart. Es pot trobar a Eivissa i Formentera en boscos poc densos. Floreix a la primavera i fa olor a vainilla.

Es difícil decir exactamente la distribución porque algunos autores no la distinguen de otras subespecies de Orchis coriophora (sinónimo: Anacamptis coriophora), algunos la consideran una subespecie de ésta, otros la consideran una especie aparte. Se puede encontrar en Ibiza y Formentera en bosques poco densos. Florece en primavera y huele a vainilla.

Von dieser Gattung gibt es mehrere Arten auf den Pityusen (ein paar mehr auf Mallorca). Der Name der Gattung sowie der deutsche Name “Knabenkraut”, der außer für diese Gattung auch für ein paar andere Orchideen verwendet wird, kommt von griechisch “όρχις”, was “Hoden” heißt, wegen der Form der Wurzel.
Orchis italica, das Italienische Knabenkraut, ist eine Art des Mittelmeergebietes. Auf Ibiza kann man sie an Orten ohne zu dichten Baumwuchs finden. Auf Formentera gibt es sie nicht. Sie blüht von Februar bis Mai.
Die Unterart Orchis coriophora subspec. fragrans ist auch mediterran. Es ist schwer, genau ihre Verbreitung zu sagen, da einige Autoren sie nicht von anderen Unterarten von Orchis coriophora (dem Wanzenknabenkraut, Synonym: Anacamptis coriophora) unterscheiden, einige betrachten sie als Unterart von dieser, andere betrachten sie als eine getrennte Art. Man kann sie auf Ibiza und Formentera in wenig dichten Wäldern finden. Sie blüht im Frühling und duftet nach Vanille.

Of this genus there are several species on the Pityuses (some more on Majorca). The name of the genus comes from Greek “όρχις”, what means “testicle”, for the form of the root.
Orchis italica is a plant of the Mediterranean. On Ibiza it can be found in places without too dense trees. On Formentera it is absent. It flowers from February to May.
The subspecies Orchis coriophora subspec. fragrans is Mediterranean too. It is difficult to determine its exact distribution because some authors do not distinguish it from other subspecies of Orchis coriophora (the bug orchid, synonym: Anacamptis coriophora), some consider it a subspecies of this latter, others consider it a species apart. It can be found on Ibiza and Formentera in forests not too dense. It flowers in spring and smells of vanilla.
