Aquest és el borinot més freqüent a les Balears. Els borinots són importants com a pol·linitzadors perquè -com la abella domèstica, però diferent de les altres abelles silvestres- són generalistes quant a les fonts de nèctar i pol·len. Així poden pol·linitzar també plantes introduïdes.
Alguna vegada vàrem visitar una granja on hi havia caixes de borinots comuns a l’hivernacle perquè els borinots pol·linitzassin les tomateres, cosa que fan millor que les abelles domèstiques. Dins les caixes hi vàrem descobrir mel de tomatera.

Éste es el abejorro más frecuente en las Baleares. Los abejorros son importantes como polinizadores porque -como la abeja doméstica, pero diferente de las otras abejas silvestres- son generalistas en cuanto a las fuentes de néctar y polen. Así pueden polinizar también plantas introducidas.
Alguna vez visitamos una granja donde había cajas de abejorros comunes en el invernadero para que los abejorros polinizaran las tomateras, lo que hacen mejor que las abejas domésticas. En las cajas descubrimos miel de tomatera.

Diese ist die häufigste Hummel auf den Balearen. Die Hummeln sind wichtig als Bestäuber da sie – wie die Honigbiene, aber anders als die anderen Wildbienen – Generalisten in Bezug auf die Nektar- und Pollenquellen sind. So können sie auch eingeführte Pflanzen bestäuben.
Einmal besuchten wir einen Hof, wo Erdhummel-Kästen im Gewächshaus hingen, damit die Hummeln die Tomatenpflanzen bestäubten, was sie besser tun als Honigbienen. In den Kästen fanden wir Tomatenhonig.
English: Buff-tailed bumblebee
This is the most frequent bumblebee on the Balearics. The bumblebees are important as pollinators because – just like the honey-bee but unlike the other wild bees – are generalists concerning the nectar and pollen sources. So they can also pollinate introduced plants.
We once visited a farm where boxes of buff-tailed bumblebees were hanging in the greenhouse in order that the bumblebees pollinated the tomato-plants, what they do better than honey-bees. In the boxes we found tomato honey.
